Step 1: Sketch the grid layout
You don't just buy tiles. The grid consists of 12-foot Main Runners and 2-foot or 4-foot Cross Tees. Sketch your room on graph paper to count exactly how many of each track you need.
Step 2: Center the tiles
A professional installation centers the grid so the border tiles on opposite walls are the same size. This means you will have to cut border tiles on all four walls, increasing waste.
Step 3: Choose 2x2 vs 2x4
2x4 tiles are cheaper and faster to install, but 2x2 tiles look much more modern and sag less in high humidity environments.
