Soffit Buying Guide

This guide helps you turn your soffit calculator result into a cleaner purchase plan. Use it when you want fewer return trips, better waste assumptions, and a more realistic cart.

Step 1: Mix vented and solid panels

Your roof needs intake ventilation, but making every panel fully vented can look busy or let in too much moisture. A common pattern is two solid panels followed by one vented panel.

Step 2: Measure the overhang depth

Measure from the exterior wall to the edge of the roof. Standard soffit panels are 12 feet long and must be cut into smaller pieces matching this overhang depth.

Step 3: Buy the trim tracks

Soffit panels don't screw directly to the wall. They slide into a J-channel or F-channel nailed against the house. Measure the perimeter to buy enough channel.

Your materials list must include the aluminum or vinyl soffit panels, J-channels, aluminum fascia wrap, and hundreds of tiny color-matched trim nails.
